THE DONKEY AND THE OX
A merchant had a donkey and an ox. The ox had an injury, yet it was making all the efforts to carry the load. On the other hand, the donkey did not do much to help. The ox worsened its injury and finally died. The merchant loaded the ox’s carcass on the donkey. When the donkey showed reluctance to carry the load, it was beaten mercilessly by the merchant. The donkey broke down, partly due to beating and partly due to its heavy burden, and finally died. A flock of vultures came down to feast on the carcass. They talked, “Only if the donkey had been kind enough to help out his colleague, he would not have met such an untimely death”.
