Plants show autotrophic mode of nutrition. Green plants make their own food by trapping solar energy and converting it to chemical energy. The process by which plants make food is called photosynthesis. Plants usually make food in leaves and also in other green parts. The green colour of leaves is due to a pigment called chlorophyll. Chlorophyll traps the solar energy. Plants take carbon dioxide from air and water from soil and make carbohydrate from them. Carbohydrate is stored in different plant parts in the form of starch. All other living beings directly or indirectly depend on green plants for food.
